Bend Surgery Center Welcomes State Senator Anthony Broadman for the OASCA High Desert Healthcare Retreat
Bend Surgery Center had the privilege of hosting the Oregon Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (OASCA) for its High Desert Healthcare Retreat in Bend, Oregon. The gathering brought together ASC representatives from across the state for a day built around camaraderie, shared purpose, and meaningful dialogue about the direction of the association and the visibility of the industry it serves.
The morning began with a tour of Bend Surgery Center, hosted by OASCA Treasurer Todd Currier and featuring State Senator Anthony Broadman, who represents Senate District 27 in the greater Bend area. Following the tour, the group held an OASCA Board Meeting focused on the most pressing issues facing ambulatory surgery centers, and closed the day with a Central Oregon Social hosted by Cresa and Columbia Bank.
From start to finish, it was a great day, and a meaningful one for our team.
Why Legislative Tours Matter
A legislative tour is an opportunity for elected officials to visit an ambulatory surgery center firsthand and better understand how ASCs operate, serve patients, improve access to care, and contribute to the healthcare delivery system in their district.
During the visit, guests are introduced to physicians, administrators, clinical staff, and operational leaders, and receive a guided overview of patient flow, safety protocols, technology, staffing, and the overall patient experience. The goal is a meaningful, nonpartisan conversation that connects healthcare policy decisions with the real-world realities of patient care and daily operations.
Seeing an ASC in person tells a story that data alone cannot. It shows how surgical care can be delivered safely, efficiently, and close to home, and how that model helps patients return to their everyday lives sooner.
A Shared Commitment to Patients
For Bend Surgery Center, opening our doors for the retreat was a natural extension of the work we do every day. Ambulatory surgery centers exist to deliver safe, high-quality, cost-effective surgical care in a setting built around the patient, and conversations like this one help ensure that the people shaping healthcare policy understand that value.
We are grateful to Senator Broadman for taking the time to visit, to Todd Currier for hosting, and to Cresa and Columbia Bank for closing out the day with the Central Oregon Social. Most of all, we are grateful to the community of ASC representatives who made the retreat what it was. We look forward to continuing this work and to remaining a resource for our community and our partners across Oregon.
